Rachel Canon Lewis, the “New Designig Tiger” in town, where LSU pride and tiger mania is life and life… is all about the tiger.
Rachel is founder and lead designer at SoHaus, a Baton Rouge, LA. Interior Design Firm whose hosting “Design Confidential”an Interior Design Workshop.
My trip this past week to Memphis as an invited guest of Brizo, makers of luxury faucets for kitchens and baths is winding down but not without alot to share. After leaving Memphis on Friday, I hit the open road to drive to Baton Rouge ( a bit longer than I thought) but none the less, it was a great ride with lots of time to rehash the past days in Memphis hosted by the amazing people from BRIZO, an incredible life changing day at St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital and many, many laughs with so many design friends from all over the country.
Rachel was hosting a one day design seminar, “Design Confidential”, designed for interior designers needing a jump-start, a refresher course, often needed design inspiration from colleagues and for courageous DIYer’s wanting to learn more.
I wanted to support Rachel’s efforts as well as a couple of my design friends Arkansas designer Andrea Brooks and California designer Ann McDonald who were also speaking at it. These workshops and seminars take alot of time and planning, organization and sheer bravery to pull it off, but at the end of the day when you have professionals who truly know their business and know how to be gracious hosts, it’s typically an all around great experience as this was. Since I was “right around the corner” in Memphis it was the perfect opportunity for a little diversion on my way to New Orleans.
I met Rachel this past year at Design Bloggers Conference in Los Angeles. Now, I’ll admit that because she was southern I immediately liked her, but honestly she was just a doll. So when she announced she was trying her hand presenting a design workshop, I knew I wanted to be there and support it. I can see that as a young designer Rachel has an incredible amount of talent. She also has and the brains to master a very difficult and often trying business. Did I mention she’s quite the fashion plate also. I wish I had gotten a picture of her yesterday in her J.Crew, ( kelly green with purple and white flowers) gorgeous pants. SoHaus – So Haute. After the workshop, I know Rachel must have been exhausted but she rallied to be the “host” and took us to a local favorite, Juban’s, one of Baton Rouges finest restaurant ( the food was AAAAmazing, and gumbo to cry over)
And then after dinner a surprise “insiders guided tour” of the LSU campus. Can I just say I was overwhelmed with the hospitality and LSU was a treat beyond!!!From the lakes, the gorgeous homes surrounding the campus, Mike, the schools Bengal Tiger mascot, the stadiums, the landscaping, the entire look and FEEL.Pure Southern vernacular and spectacular.
Hers’s a couple photo’s of Rachel’s work I admire.
Must run now my friends as I’m heading out on my final leg of this trip ending in New Orleans today with some stops at a couple of plantations and more yummy food. Have a great Sunday.
